Tori Bowie was an American track and field athlete who was born on August 27, 1990, in Sand Hill, Mississippi, USA.

Bowie was considered one of America’s most successful sprinters, known for her sprinting and long jumping. In particular she was famous for her skills in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres relay competitions.

She is considered one of the fastest female athletes in the world, winning medals in many major international competitions, including the Olympics and World Championships.

She won three medals at the Rio Olympics 2016 as well as was a gold medalist at the 16th IAAF World Athletics Championships in London, the Beijing World Championships, the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and the World Indoor Championships.

Bowie died under suspicious circumstances at her home on 3 May 2023. The news of his death was announced by her management company USA Track & Field with no cause given.

Early Life and Begnning Career

Tori Bowie’s father Kelly Bowie was a truck driver by profession and mother Mona Bowie was a nurse by profession. She was raised in Sand Hill, Mississippi with 11 siblings.

During her early education, she was more fond of basketball due to which she used to participate in school competitions. She often saw athletes participating in the competitions held in her school, due to which she also had the desire to become an athlete.

While attending Pisgah High School in Sand Hill, Mississippi, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi on a basketball scholarship, but later transferred to Alcorn State University in Lorman, Southern Mississippi to focus on track and field. She played college basketball as a guard for the USM Lady Eagles basketball team.

Seeing Bowie’s excellence in track and field at USM, her coaches advised him to work harder in track and field. She soon became famous competing in sprint events. In 2011, during her junior year at USM, she won her first outdoor track and field state championship trophies in the 100 metre dash and long jump.

Tori Bowie made her national track and field debut in 2014. She competed at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in which she won a silver medal in 100 metres and a bronze medal in 200 metres. In 2014, she also won a silver medal in the 100 metres race at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

In 2015, Bowie went to Beijing to compete at the World Championships for the first time in her career, where she won a bronze medal in the 100 metre dash and a gold medal in the 4×100 metre relay.
