Her father Harris White was an electrical engineer and her mother Tess White was a housewife. Her childhood was spent in California.

When Betty was about a year old, her father moved to Los Angeles in search of a job and raised her by selling crystal radios.

Betty received her early education from Horace Mann Bronx Campus Middle and Upper Division School, located in Los Angeles. She then graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1939.

Betty White married three times in her life. Her first marriage was to US Air Force pilot Dick Barker in 1945. But their marriage did not last long and they got divorced in 1945.

Her second marriage was to Hollywood talent agent Len Allen in 1947, but this relationship with him also did not last long and they got divorced in 1949.

After this, Betty married for the third and last time on June 14, 1963, to television host Alan Ludden. They first met on the game show Password, where Ludden appeared as a guest. However Ludden was already the father of three children. Betty White never remarried after Ludden’s death (1981).

Unfortunately for Betty, she had no children of her own. She served as stepmother to Ludden’s three children, Sarah, Martha and David.
