Mike Johnson is a senior Lawyer and popular Republican politician from Louisiana who was elected as the 56th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives on October 24, 2023. He was selected after the unsuccessful candidacies of Steve Scalise, Jim Jordan and Tom Emmer.
Johnson is the first Republican leader from Louisiana to serve as speaker since Joseph B. Martin Jr., who served as speaker in the 1950s. He is also a true Christian preacher who has worked with churches, pastors and congregations to represent them.
Johnson was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Louisiana’s 4th congressional district in 2016. He served as the Chairman of the Republican Study Committee from 2019 to 2021 and as the Vice Chairman of the House Republican Conference from 2021 to 2023.

Mike Johnson started his career as a lawyer after law and he practiced constitutional law for about 20 years.
Jhonson also served as senior counsel to the Alliance Defense Fund, now known as the Alliance Defending Freedom. He was formerly the chief counsel for the non-profit law firm Freedom Guard.
