John MacArthur is an influential pastor, author and evangelist of Christianity. He is best known for hosting the national Christian radio and television program “Grace to You.”

John MacArthur’s real name is John Fullerton MacArthur Jr,. He was born on June 19, 1939 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

His father is Jack MacArthur, who was a famous Christian preacher and radio evangelist, and his mother is Irene MacArthur.

MacArthur was brought up in Los Angeles and completed his primary education there. He attended Bob Jones University but received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Los Angeles Pacific College in 1961.

MacArthur received a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from Talbot Theological Seminary in 1963. He also received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Talbot Theological Seminary in 1977.

Career

John MacArthur began his career in 1964 as associate pastor at Harry Memorial Bible Church, where he served until 1966.

MacArthur served as faculty representative of Talbot Theological Seminary from 1966 to 1969. Then he was ordained as pastor of Grace Community Church in California in 1969.

MacArthur was named president of Los Angeles Baptist College (now The Master’s University) in 1985. And In 1986 he was named president of the new Master’s Seminary.

Under his leadership, Grace Community Church grew tremendously. The television program “Grace to You” founded by him is broadcast all over the world.
