Sangeeta began her modeling career at the age of 16 and earned the nickname "Bijli" due to her electrifying presence on the ramp.
She won the Miss India title in 1980 and represented India at the Miss Universe pageant in Seoul, South Korea, where she received the Best National Costume award, with the costume designed by her mother, Poonam Bijlani.
